ABOUT THE BLOG…One of my flaws is that I get stuck in the past, re-rehashing things over and over. But I’ve come to believe I’m being led to deep dive into black history to share some stories that might not otherwise be told.
My blog, which I’ve yet to name, mostly looks at 1940’s black Hollywood. I picked that era because over the last 15 years, I’ve become increasingly fascinated by the conflict between Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win the Oscar, and Walter Francis White of the NAACP, a powerful man who was determined to put an end to the kind of roles she played.
Widening my perspective a bit, I began to read up Gone With the Wind; other actors of the era; the world on the verge of World War II; and the growing momentum towards for Civil Rights. It gives me a lot to write about. Hope you enjoy it.
